Richard’s Story

At 29, Richard landed a job at David Jones in soft furnishings—his first step into the world of blinds and curtains. Eager to learn, he quickly gained knowledge and, within months, ventured out on his own. Now, 42 years later, he’s still going strong.

He launched his business as Image 80’s, later rebranding twice before settling on Sunteca in 2005. In the early days, Richard handled everything—sales, installations, and operations—while his mother, Beryl, sewed blinds and curtains from their garage.

As demand grew, he opened a showroom in Willoughby and partnered with top Australian manufacturers. Though the showroom eventually closed, Richard embraced remote work long before it became the norm. Today, he leads a team of sales reps and installers, staying true to his values of supporting small businesses and keeping operations local.

Samantha’s Story

Growing up, I never imagined working in the family business—I was always drawn to creativity and big ideas. But during COVID, as Sunteca thrived and my dad struggled to keep up with demand, I put my career in education on hold to help. He even considered selling the business.

What started as a temporary step turned into one of the best decisions of my life. Two years in, I love the creative side of working with clients in their homes and commercial spaces—every day is different and exciting.

For over 40 years, my dad has built Sunteca with passion and honesty. I hope to continue his legacy, putting the same dedication into every project, and I believe that love shines through in our work.
